This book is fantastic!!!! It is among the first I have read by this author, B.J. Scott, and I promise it is not the last. I have found a new author to add to my favorites list, which I consider a new treasure. Finishing this book only made me want to purchase every historical this author has written.I was captivated from the first page and finished it in one sitting. The story pulls on every emotion imaginable as the characters struggle through obstacles trying to keep them apart. I like my romance with hot, sexy passionate sparks between the hero and heroine and rarely find a book that holds my interest if not written with a definite amount of spice. I was very pleasantly surprised that although this particular book has just enough fire to keep it from being totally sweet, the author manages to hold the reader’s interest throughout while making the story presentable and interesting to readers regardless of their preferred heat level.
I won’t go into a lot of detail and depth regarding the actual telling of the story as I don’t like to spoil it for other readers. Laurel, the heroine at a very young age promised her father on his deathbed to adhere to her father’s cousin and his witch of a wife as her guardians until she reaches the age of eighteen and takes control as lairdess of her clan. Her life begins and continues with struggles to cope with and overcome evil plots which will take away any control she strives to reach upon her becoming of age.
Add to the excitement the plans the guardians have regarding their equally evil son, a meeting of her true hero, protecting others she feels responsible for, and trying to unravel a mystery from the past and current secrets being kept which jeopardizes Laurel’s life, and you have a perfect recipe for a terrific medieval Scottish Romance.
The heroine is a strong, stand on her own two feet and itching to take control as is her right, lady. The hero, Blair Cameron, is a handsome hunk of a highlander who is strong and confident enough to recognize how he feels and go after what he knows will make his life complete.
I highly recommend this book to anyone and I highly recommend B.J. Scott as an author. My research shows she has written a trilogy, The Fraser Brothers Trilogy, prior to releasing Her Highlander’s Promise. I have, since reading this book, purchased the trilogy and absolutely look forward to reading all of them.

On the day of her father's burial, ten-year-old Laurel met thirteen-year-old Blair, and taken with her by love at first sight, promised to return when they were both of age and wed her, giving her a promise ring to remember him by. Laurel has a difficult life with her evil guardians and Blair returns to her not a moment too soon. I couldn't decide if Laurel was too naive or if she was just too trusting, but she seemed easily fooled by her nemesis for a goodly portion of the story, but she was a very likeable, noble person and I liked her throughout. Blair was everything you could wish for in a knight in shinning armor. The ending hinged on a great many miraculous events and discoveries, that may have been more than a tad unrealistic, but I found it enjoyable. Great story. Dare I hope it will be followed by any sequels to tell the stories of Blair's three older brothers (James, Ian and Keenan), Katie from the inn or her Uncle Lachlan's story?
This story starts in the Scottish Highlands, in the 1300s, Our heroine, is just a child of 10, burying her much loved father & Laird. We also meet our hero, Blair as he gives her a ring at the funeral & asks her to promise to wait & wed only him...beautifully done. As she was to become her father's heiress & Lairdess on her 18 th B-Day,until that time she was under her Uncle & Aunts(nasty women) control.....18th birthday arrives & so does Blair, remembering his promise.This story is beautifully written & his all the characteristics I look for in a novel, suspense, romance & believable characters. This has all that & more Ms. Scotts descriptive powers brought the story & her characters to life.Even the secondary characters were brought to life in this tale. A book that took hold of my attention & held it. Thank you for the wonderful adventure Ms. Scott. I highly recommend this book...Happy reading )
At times I became frustrated with the h for not having a back bone with her cousin's wife. She supposedly was trying to behave so others were not punished. T hen they were punished anyway and she still didn't develop a back bone. I kept telling myself she wasn't 18 yet, but women in this time period had to grow up fast.
I did like the H, his loyalty and honor. I always enjoy a story when it starts out when they were children.
There is VERY mild lovemaking, within marriage and rated maybe 2.5 if that out of 5 heat level. No cheating, no cliffhanger, we do get HEA and romance is like being on a bullet train-zoom.
We have a very bad villain, some suspense and twists. I did enjoy it and felt a connection to them even though they are not together long. That is why an epilogue would have been enjoyable. (ljb)
Disappointed with this story and plot. The heroine was very irritating, naive, immature and passive. She lived with evil guardians and did nothing to change or improve her life. She even drank mead knowing it was drugged. The hero was also naive but not quite as irritating. Limited romantic episode. Not interested in reading this author again.
This is a new highlander book by B J Scott and I loved it. I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. This book has a really bad villain, a couple of wimps, and a hero! There is murder, lies, deceit, as well as love, honor, strength and promises kept. I do love a good highlander story!
When Lauren was 10 her dad died and left his cousin Murray in charge of her and her clan. Murray’s wife was really the one in charge and let everybody know it. Just before Lauren’s 18th birthday Deidra had plans for Lauren to wed her son, Allan. She, however, had no plans for Lauran to take over the clan.
At her dad’s funeral Lauren met Blair, who was 13 at the time and he vowed to one day wed her. When they meet at a fair 8 years later, Blair vows he still wants Lauren for his wife. This sets off a chain of events toward that goal but not before Deidra tries to have her way. This is a great story about love overcoming evil and happy ever after.
