Afflictions is the second book in Lennox McCaskill's Colossal series. The book starts where the first one left off after the chaos and destruction in Meridian. Afflictions follows our two main characters, Katie and Detective Wreings, as well as a few new characters (and a few more complex villains).What makes this book so interesting is the level of politics introduced in the story and all the suspense. The town of Meridian is dealing with the aftermath of the last book and must determine which areas of the city to repair, which adds a realistic touch to this science fiction, superhero narrative.
Ultimately, this book was so enjoyable to read. I kept thinking about the story and characters even when I wasn't reading it. The suspense grabbed my attention and caused me to read the book faster than I normally would. The ending was very well-done, and I can't wait to see what happens in the third book.

Fans of the first in the series, Colossal Issue #1 (The Colossal Series), are going to love Afflictions. Plenty of exciting new characters that thicken the plot around the fictional Southern town of Meridian. Well written dialogue and narrative make this an easy and engaging read for most any age.
This series has been so fun to read. Volume 1 was full of action that got you hooked. Volume 2 is more focused on world building and character development. You follow detectives as they unravel a mystery where each new clue offer more questions than answers. You follow our hero as she tries to navigate living a "normal life" with powers. And we finally get to meet the puppet master who has been behind it all! (not a spoiler I promise!)
I brought this book on vacation and let my boyfriend read Colossal (which he loves). I can't wait to pass him Afflictions while I read Fallen (which I just ordered)!!! I am so excited to find out what happens next!
There were a lot of new characters in the second installment of the Colossal series. It was hard to keep track of all the names and personalities, but maybe that's just because I read it too fast. Just like the first book, this one is action packed and makes you think. It's a very exciting story that keeps you hooked until the end and ready for the next in the series... which just so happens to be titled Fallen, and there's a short excerpt of it at the end of this book!
I will likely reread this book so I can get a better grasp on all the new characters, and also just because it's such a great story. Excited to see what's in store for Katie and Detective Wreings in #Fallen2017
